Green is good to go

The Soil Association has devoted the next two weeks from 6 September to all things organic, so in celebration of Organic Fortnight, we've centred the features in this edition of Salisbury Life on thinking green.

There are handy hints on creating a garden that attracts wildlife, and with the summer that has just passed us by, the birds and bees need all the help they can get. The lack of sun has meant a dearth of pollen, so no honey for us this year, while the butterflies have been notable by their absence, too.

Abel & Cole, purveyor of wonderful organic boxes of fruit and veg, is offering one lucky reader a £50 box in a competition on page 40, so why ot enter and you could soon be healthily munching away organically for free?

This is the month that we celebrate the Salisbury Food & Drink Festival, fittingly just sneaking in at the end of Organic Fortnight. It's a great chance for us all to enjoy some really outstanding culinary treats and, fortuitously, our Salisbury Life this issue is Debbie Rigg who kickstarted the Festival into action.

September is also back to school time, so our education feature examines the question of whether the International Baccalaureate is a viable alternative to the current A-level system.

Here's hoping that we can enjoy a bit of an Indian summer before the nights really draw in.
