Summer lovin'

It’s a fabulous time for me to be editing my first issue of Salisbury Life – the sun is shining (fingers crossed that our insane meteorological optimism hasn’t cursed the rest of the summer) and the following pages are a positive paean to The Great British Summer.
We kick-off with a round up of some of the best places to dine al fresco in and around Salisbury, whether you’re after a decent pint on a pub patio or afternoon tea at a posh hotel – and everything in between – on page 10.
In stark contrast, Joe and I try our hand at the sport of kings, polo, at a famous racing stables near Stonehenge on page 46, before recovering and rewarding ourselves with more eating and general indulgence at The Boot Inn – a traditional 18th coaching inn – at Berwick St James (p 30) and a trip to see Kevin Hughes’ renowned plant centre, which sits in the corner of the award-winning Heale Gardens in the Avon Valley (p 40). You’ll find more green-fingered inspiration for your English country garden on p 42, as Emma Bond turns her attention to all things topiary.
For music fans, I talk to James Shepard, co founder and director of the Larmer Tree festival about why this year’s 20th anniversary celebration – featuring the likes of Toots and the Maytals and Martha Wainwright – is set to be bigger and better than ever.
